From the home office in Blogroll, NE, tonight's top 10 blog entries:
10. Pontifex Ex Machina is home. First L.T.(Cmdr.)(select) Smash, then Chinpokomon, and now Pontifex? This means all the warbloggers I have on my roll are no longer kicking ass. Hey, I'm happy for you guys, don't get me wrong. You deserve the rest. But unless you want the rest of us getting our war news from fools, asshats, and the just plain ignorant, you've got to get us some other links.
9. Steven Den Beste is in top form, as always, this time discussing Hamas' threats to blow up Israeli high-rises if Israel keeps killing its leaders. Except...uh... they actually can't. One quick comment: forget the whole discussion of rat poison and anticoagulants. THIS is the truly frightening thing about suicide bombs. It's called "butterfly lungs." Basically, this is when the concussion wave generated by the detonating bomb hits someone in the chest. It literally shreds their lungs. It starts off with a mild cough. But soon, your lung tissue swells up with blood and you can no longer take in oxygen. Respirators can even cause more damage. As many as 47% of people in suicide bombings suffer this kind of injury. Many die or face weeks in the ICU. You don't even need to be hit by any kind of shrapnel to suffer this. It is a horrible way to die. And yet, Howard Dean says we're supposed to call these people "soliders..."
8. Bill Whittle has got his 9/11 essay up. Barely a page. C'mon. You can do better than that, Bill!
7. Imago Veritatis has just informed me that Star Trek is a communist conspiracy. Now, I hate commies, too. but, the Federation seems to be more like Thomas More's Utopia than Marx's. If you want to see sci-fi communism, look no further than the Borg. No individuality, no personal thoughts or desires, relentless expansionism, a missionary zeal to "perfect" society, etc. etc....
I just realized I am a nerd.
6. Prudent Politics has another great taxation parable. Just go read it.
5. But I don't wanna be a martyr!
4. How Appealing links to two articles of note. First, from the Washington Post, US Supreme Court Justice Steven Breyer says that America can learn from Israel how to balance terrorism and human rights. Second, Robert Bork is back, and he thinks that the Supreme Court needs to stick to American Law.
3. Are you a NeoCon? Kudos to Southern Appeal for this interesting find.
2. From the "Do as I say, Not as I Do" file... 10% of American parents send their kids to private schools. More than 40% of Senators and Congressmen do...and then lecture us about how we need to support public schools. Via No. 2 Pencil.
And the Number 1 Blog post of the Day:
1. "Exiling Arafat Could Bring Violence to Mideast." Is it a bad sign when the real news and the fake news start looking the same?
